The
Shimla State Museum is
the best place to learn about the pahari lifestyle, their culture, arts
and handicrafts. It has got a rich collection of 2,000 objects of art
including paintings left by the family of Wazir Kartar Singh of Nurpur,
Kangra. Kangra Art Museum is a
gallery of miniature paintings from Kangra as well as sculptures, pottery
and anthropological items. Worth a visit is
Dharamsala's Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, which has one of
the world's most extensive collections of original Tibetan manuscripts of
sacred texts and prayers and books on all aspects of Tibet. The
three-storey Bhuri Singh Museum in Chamba
has got an exquisite collection of miniature paintings from the Kangra
Bisholi and Chamba School of paintings. Two other museums that merits a
visit are the Nicholas
Roerich Museum and
Uruswati
Himalayan Folk Art Museum situated near
Nagar.
