Kullu . Nicholas
Roerich was a Russian who settled in Naggar after the revolution of 1917.
His dream was to unify the world through art and his work received
considerable critical acclaim.
The paintings of late Nicholas Reorich can be seen at the Reorich museum
of paintings in a whitewashed set in a jewel-like garden. Around the turn
of the arcane blend of eastern mysticism and fin de siecle`
humanist-idealism-inspired a culture like following in France and the U.S.
The exhibition in the small room on the ground floor comprises a dozen or
so evocative paintings reflecting his love for the mountains, in brilliant
deep colours blending his Russian background with mythological landscape
of the Himalayas.
The small collection is complimented by a few old photos of the self
styled guru, pictured in Chines silk robes, cossack boots and burly beard,
posing on the front lawn with visiting digniteries such as Jawaharlal
Nehru.
