Beas
rises high in the mountains from world famous
Rohtang pass at 3,978m
altitude. The river is named after the sage Vyas who is supposed to have
practiced austerities at Beas Kund, the source of the river. It is a
delightful mountain stream as it flows swiftly down to the spectacular
Rahalla Falls. It meanders through the meadows near
Manali , through
the orchards of Kullu
and through the Larji gorge to Mandi.
Various snow-fed streams like Parvati and Spin and other famous
tributaries such as Malana Nala, Sarvari streams, Binwa, Neugal, Banganga,
Gaj, Dehr, Chakki, Kunah and Manare join this river. After covering 256-km
of length through the districts of
Kullu ,
Mandi, Hamirpur
and Kangra it leaves
Himachal at Mirtha.
