'Markual' or 'Marul'-ancient Markul is a small village in
Chamba-Lahaul at the junction of 'Miyar Nala' with the Chandrabhaga.
The main deity of worship in the temple is a silver image of "Mahishasurmardini",
which is probably contemporary with the later woodcarvings on the
architraves and windows carvings, but is of a different type. Her 'Mukta'
looks like a ceremonial crown of a Tibetan Lama and her girdle like that
of a 'Lamaistic' deity.
The interior of the temple provides an extraordinary view. The carvings
on deodar wood do not belong to the same period.
